Luxury Car Shipping Services
At EMV Transportation, we do more than transport cars—we’re car enthusiasts ourselves. That’s why when an individual or business comes to us to ship a luxury car, we understand how serious of an investment they’ve made in their vehicle whether fiscally or sentimentally. We also acknowledge that our clients invest a lot of trust in our luxury car shipping services everytime we ship one of their cars. Thats why EMV Transportation ensures our expert car haulers treat every car the same and take every step to protect each vehicle. Our top of the line enclosed car carriers with air ride suspension and lift gate loading protect your vehicle every mile of the car’s journey.
Three Decades of Experience and Trust
Over the past four decades, we’ve worked to provide the first-class service to transform a family business into an industry leader and the most trusted car carrier. We’ve done this by listening to what our clients wanted from an auto transportation company and by specializing in luxury cars and vehicles. While we handle the transport of a variety of vehicles such as motorcycles, race cars, classic cars, exotic cars, and luxury cars, we’ve narrowed our focus to the transportation of high-end, world-class vehicles.
We know luxury car owners are worried about security as well as the upkeep of their vehicle while it’s in transport. That’s why we use a fleet of 53-foot fully enclosed air-ride trailers and employ a staff of experienced drivers who have transported everything from antiques to one-of-a-kind cargo.

Choosing a Carrier Makes a Difference
From Mercedes to Porsche or Rolls Royce, when you trust EMV Transportation to ship your luxury car you can rest assured that you’re employing a fully-insured, luxury car carrier. What’s the difference between a broker and a carrier? An auto transport carrier like EMV Transportation specializes in luxury car shipping services and focuses solely on the client’s interests. An auto transport broker is a facilitator who takes an order for luxury car transport services and contracts with a carrier that owns the shipping equipment. A broker can seem like a “one-stop shop,” due to strategic marketing tactics. You won’t necessarily who is transporting your luxury car, where the car is at all times, and the experience of the driver transporting the car. Why leave transporting your luxury car up to a series of unknowns? Choose the experience, security, and quality-service of EMV Transportation.

What’s The Difference Between Open and Enclosed Transport?
It’s good to have choices. When it comes to auto transport, you have many service types. Two you’ve probably heard of are a open car shipping and enclosed auto transport. Generally speaking, the difference between open and enclosed service includes vehicle protection, transit times, service costs, and insurance coverage.
Let’s take a closer look at each service type to see how they’re alike, how they differ, and how you can choose the type of service that meets your needs.
Enclosed Auto Transport
An enclosed auto transport protects your vehicle during transport against the same weather and road elements you would be faced with if you were driving the vehicle to its destination. These include rain, sun, dust, tar, bugs, debris and others. Enclosed carriers are made up of boxed enclosures that surround your vehicle typically with solid or curtain walls. There are few reasons to opt for enclosed auto transport, but the most significant reason is to maintain pristine condition of your vehicle.
Some other key points about enclosed auto transport:
Transit times are generally faster.
Insurance coverage is $250,000 per vehicle.
Non stack carriers are available.
For more enclosed specifics, read our enclosed auto transport page.
Open Car Shipping
Open car shipping is the standard service type for auto transport. As the name suggest, vehicles travel uncovered to weather and road conditions during transport. Your vehicle is exposed to the same elements you encounter while driving, such as sun, snow, dust, debris and others.
Here are some key features:
Open car shipping is the more inexpensive service type.
Insurance covers up to $75,000 per vehicle.
80-90% of autos are shipped via open car carriers.

Open Car Shipping
The number one reason why clients opt to go with the enclosed carrier vs open carrier is for vehicle protection. Carriers are covered and the risk of damage to vehicles is practically eliminated. Unlike the open carrier, vehicles are not exposed to any elements of the weather and the road such as rain, dust, hail, road debris, sun etc. In addition, enclosed car carriers carry a minimum of $250,000 and up to $1,000,000 of coverage insurance while the open car carriers carry only a minimum of $100,000.
Due to the limited amount of carriers offering enclosed service and the demand for the service, transporting vehicles enclosed is a bit more costly. On average, enclosed car carriers cost approximately $300-$1,000 more than the open car carriers. The extra cost is also attributed to the operating of the carriers. Since the enclosed auto carriers are the best available in the industry they are also more expensive to operate, service and maintain.
Open Car Carrier Vs Enclosed Car Carrier
Enclosed car carriers are smaller and limited in space. Normally a covered carrier is only able to accommodate 2-7 vehicles compared to the open carrier which can handle sometimes up to 10 vehicles. This means that an enclosed carrier will have less vehicles to pickup, less vehicles to deliver and faster delivery times. Contrary to open carriers, most enclosed carriers are equipped with either lift gates or low profile ramps. Enclosed carriers are able to handle any low clearance vehicle with a clearance as low as 1″ without damaging the bottom while loading and unloading.
Nationwide United Auto Transport wants you to feel confident no matter what option you decide to go with. With over 15 years of experience in the auto transport industry, we’ve transported thousands of vehicles via enclosed and open carriers. If the extra cost is not an issue, then we suggest to transport your vehicle enclosed. Either way, have peace of mind knowing that you have a reliable auto shipping company taking care of your vehicle’s move.
Direct Express Auto Transport notifies the car delivery service about your pickup and destination information, including contacts. The car transport service should not show up unannounced. He should call the pickup contact first to coordinate time and place to meet, and also verify information. Most times it is necessary to meet the auto transport service close by at a place the driver can safely maneuver a big truck. That is still in the spirit of door-to-door service. Military bases require pick up outside the front gates. You can check, but almost no military facility that we know will allow auto transport trailer equipment on base. Remember, no money changes hands at pick up. Simply fill out a vehicle condition report authorizing the car shipment and hand over the keys to the driver. No other paperwork is necessary. Upon delivery, simply pay the vehicle mover with a money order check or cash. Auto shipping can be very easy with the right coordination.
How much does it cost to ship my car door to door? To find out and instantly see your auto transport quotes, simply enter your origination and destination zip codes anywhere in the continental USA. Then choose the year, make and model of the vehicle(s) you are shipping. Select whether it is running or non-running? And then finally choose whether you wish to car ship Open or Enclosed? That’s it. Click the “Get My Quote Now” button to request your vehicle transport quotes in 15 seconds! The great news is that we have so many options to offer. Three different pricing tiers that work to give you peace of mind.
There are seasonal fluctuations that may affect the car shipment cost, sometimes dramatically. The “snowbirds” from the colder northern states flock to the warmer southern states in the Winter, driving up the price to places like Florida, Texas, California, Arizona and Florida. They return home by the tens of thousands in the Spring, and then auto shipping quotes in that direction start to escalate. Our best car shipping quotes calculator reflects market conditions during seasonal fluctuations.
Almost 97% of all car shipments go Open transport. That means exposed to the elements. It is the same type of auto transport services that you often see new cars being delivered to dealerships. Open transport is the most cost effective way to ship a car. The alternative is Enclosed transport. It is the luxury way to ship a vehicle but costs significantly more. The average Enclosed transport price is roughly 40-50% higher. Part of the reason is that an Enclosed auto hauler can fit only six vehicles, whereas an Open car mover can accommodate nine or ten. Both types of car transport companies (Open & Enclosed) travel the same distance and have similar expenses. The six vehicles on an Enclosed transport, therefore, must make up the difference in revenue from the Open car moving carrier’s nine or ten.
Direct Express makes sure all vehicles are insured while on the transport carrier. Not everybody is as diligent. The last thing a car transporter wants is a damage claim. The lower the vehicle ground clearance, the more prone to damage, especially when shipping Open transport. A good rule of thumb would be that any vehicle with 4 inches ground clearance and lower should ship Enclosed, where it can be treated with kid gloves. Any vehicle over 5 inches ground clearance should be safe to go Open. It is that middle inch between four and five that vexes brokers and car transportation services. It can go Open, or to be safe Enclosed. The latter is more expensive by about 40-50%, sometimes more.
Height matters. Most sedans are about 57 inches high, midsize SUV’s 67 inches and larger SUV’s 73 inches on average. SUV’s are typically have higher pricing to transport than sedans. And special, taller SUV’s are still more than the regular SUV’s because it forces a lower paying sedan to fit over or under it. To compensate for the loss in revenue, we recommend the car transport companies need more money from the pricing of the much taller SUV’s. And that’s why height matters in car shipping quotes. You can count on our free instant car transport quote calculator to factor height of the vehicle.
A great question is whether the length of the vehicle affects the car delivery service cost? The average sedan or shipping car is about 189 inches long. Any vehicle less than 189 inches becomes more desirable to a professional car transport service, because it may allow car movers to also ship a longer vehicle for more money. In that vein, longer vehicles over 196 inches start to squeeze a car transport trailer and he needs to carefully consider how to fit it. Vehicles over 200 inches should certainly have higher pricing to help compensate for the presumed loss in any of the auto transport companies trailer space to accommodate other cars, trucks, vans and SUV’s. Our original first in the industry instant car shipping quotes calculator adjusts for length.
